Bengaluru, Jan 28 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has vehemently criticized the remarks made by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding Union Minister Amit Shah's involvement in the Kumbh Mela and his holy dip at the Triveni Sangam.
The BJP posed the question, “Why such animosity and contempt for Hinduism, Indian culture, and its traditions by the Congress party?”
R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, highlighted the importance of the Kumbh Mela, which he characterized as a sacred ritual followed by millions of Hindus. "The Maha Kumbh Mela, occurring after 144 years, is a profoundly esteemed tradition where taking a dip at the Triveni Sangam is believed to purify one of sins and bestow blessings," he expressed.
Ashoka took aim at Kharge, stating, “Why demean the faith of millions of Hindus merely to show blind loyalty to a family that has consistently disregarded Indian values and Sanatan Dharma? Would Congress dare to make similar remarks about the Haj pilgrimage or Ramadan fasting?”
He also pointed out that the Constitution, which was crafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, guarantees the right to religious freedom and practice. “Challenging a sacred ritual like the holy dip in the Ganga is not only an affront to Hinduism but also a breach of constitutional principles,” Ashoka remarked.
Echoing similar views, BJP MLC N. Ravikumar denounced Kharge’s statements. "Does visiting Mecca or Medina alleviate poverty or ensure a place in heaven? It is wholly inappropriate to utter such disrespectful comments about Hinduism. Kharge should promptly apologize and relinquish his position as AICC President," Ravikumar asserted.
Keshav Prasad, a member of the BJP Legislative Council, underscored the international acknowledgment of the Maha Kumbh Mela. “Devotees of Sanatan Dharma from around the globe have converged for this hallowed event. Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the holy dip, and leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be in attendance,” he noted.
Prasad criticized Congress for its perceived bias, saying, “Kharge’s statements clearly reflect how Congress perceives the majority Hindu religion. Have they ever questioned Haj pilgrimages or Iftar gatherings? Despite being in power for decades, Congress has not succeeded in eliminating poverty, whereas under BJP’s governance, poverty levels have declined, and infrastructure such as toilets, roads, and gas connections have been established.”
Reaffirming the BJP’s dedication to development and religious tolerance, Prasad declared, “We take pride in our commitment to respect and uphold the religious convictions of all communities. Kharge’s extreme remarks are indicative of Congress’ divisive mindset.”
