Kolkata, March 24 (NationPress) The West Bengal BJP has temporarily suspended four local-level party officials from the Behala-Paschim Assembly constituency due to their alleged heckling of party figures, including Anupam Bhattacharya, the BJP’s organisational district president for the Kolkata-Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency, during a public event on Sunday.

The head of the party’s Internal Disciplinary Committee in West Bengal, Pratap Banerjee, issued letters to the four officials, requiring them to provide a written response regarding the accusations of harassing senior leadership within the next seven days.

Till that time, they are to remain suspended from the party, as specified in Banerjee’s correspondence. The individuals temporarily expelled include Joy Ghosh, Rana Dwary, Sukumar Hazra, and Dibyendu Samanta.

A public program was held on Sunday within the Behala-Paschim Assembly constituency to assist Anupam Bhattacharya in selecting a new organisational district president for the Kolkata-Dakshin constituency.

Members from a rival faction associated with Bhattacharya allegedly disrupted the event, targeting the newly elected district president and his supporters.

This led to clashes between opposing groups. As Bhattacharya intervened to quell the disturbance, he faced heckling, with reports indicating that members of the opposing group even smeared black ink on his face. The situation escalated, requiring police intervention to restore order.

The BJP’s district leadership has lodged an official complaint regarding the incident with the authorities.

The state leadership was informed of the developments, prompting an immediate decision to temporarily suspend the four implicated officials.

Earlier this month, the BJP revealed the names of the presidents for 25 out of 43 organisational districts in West Bengal, with 15 of those being new appointments.

Party insiders indicated that the remaining 18 district presidents will soon be announced, followed by the introduction of a new state president for the party in West Bengal.

The current state president of the BJP in West Bengal and party Lok Sabha member, Sukanta Majumdar, serves as a Minister of State in the Union Cabinet.
