New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) In light of US President Donald Trump’s acknowledgment of previous American administrations attempting to sway elections in India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday criticized the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, asserting that he served as a "tool for foreign agencies" and collaborated with international entities to jeopardize the nation’s interests.
BJP IT cell leader Amit Malviya circulated a collection of vintage clips on X, including footage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to support the 'revelations' made by the new American President regarding the earlier US government's involvement in undermining democracies worldwide.
In a Miami speech on Thursday, President Trump challenged the USAID (United States Agency for International Development) funding of $21 million aimed at enhancing ‘voter turnout’ in India under the Biden administration, questioning, "Was it done to elect another government?"
The US President’s comments sparked a political uproar and prompted swift reactions.
Amit Malviya was quick to seize on Trump’s acknowledgment regarding the US government’s efforts to influence elections in India, sharing a series of PM Modi’s warnings about foreign plots to interfere in the nation’s electoral process, repeatedly made during the 2024 election campaign.
He also posted a video of the Congress MP's 2023 discussion with the Indian Journalists' Association in London, stating, “In March 2023, before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi was in London, appealing to foreign powers — from the US to Europe — to meddle in India’s internal matters.”
“He allied with global networks aiming to undermine India’s strategic and geopolitical interests, acting as a tool for foreign agencies,” he asserted.
The remarks that ignited controversy over alleged US interference in India’s democratic process originated from Trump’s criticism of the Biden administration concerning fund allocations through the USAID.
“Why are we spending $21 million on voter turnout in India? I suspect they were trying to get someone else elected. We need to inform the Indian Government... This is a total breakthrough,” Trump stated at the FII PRIORITY Summit in Miami on Thursday.
