Bhopal, July 10 (NationPress) The results from the by-elections conducted on July 7 for single councillor positions in nine urban areas throughout Madhya Pradesh were announced on Thursday, highlighting a pivotal event in local governance.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demonstrated strong performance, capturing six out of the nine available seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) obtained three.
The by-elections were necessitated by vacancies caused by resignations, disqualifications, and the deaths of former councillors.
As reported by State Election Commission Secretary Abhishek Singh, the voter turnout was recorded at 69.68%, with male participation at 73.01% and female turnout at 66.36%. Voting proceeded smoothly from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 7, with counting commencing at 9 a.m. on July 10.
In Bairasia (Bhopal district), Shaista Sultan of the BJP won from ward 7, defeating an independent candidate by 314 votes. In Seoni’s ward 11, BJP’s Nidhi triumphed over Congress’s Aarti Shah by a margin of 290 votes.
Sanwer (Indore district) witnessed a win for Congress’s Hasina in ward 7, overcoming BJP’s Mangilal by 117 votes. Meanwhile, Gautampura’s ward 15 was claimed by BJP’s Shankarlal, who defeated Congress’s Ramchandra Rathore by 179 votes.
Congress gained ground in Bichhiya (Mandla district), with Rajkumari Dhurve winning ward 13, outpacing BJP’s Janaki Bai Dhurve by 218 votes.
In Khand (Shahdol district), Congress’s Shashidhar Tripathi narrowly defeated BJP’s Sharada Prasad Gupta by 87 votes. Newton Chikhli (Chhindwara district) saw BJP’s Nikita Barkhe win ward 4 against Congress’s Gayatri Kumre by 107 votes.
