BJP's 31-month Rajasthan record beats Congress's 5 years: CM Bhajanlal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Thursday, 20 August asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had achieved more development in 31 months than the previous Congress administration managed across its full five-year term, as he rallied party workers at a strategy meeting in Jaipur ahead of the state's upcoming civic body elections.
Key Claims at the Strategy Meet
Addressing BJP leaders, workers, and 2023 assembly election candidates, Sharma declared: 'The BJP government has done in 31 months what the Congress could not do even in five years, and it will not be able to do so in the future either.' He urged workers to carry the government's record directly to voters across every segment of society.
Sharma promoted the concept of a 'double-engine government' — the alignment of state and central BJP administrations — and expressed confidence that a BJP win in the civic polls would create a 'triple-engine government' to further accelerate Rajasthan's development.
Development Figures Cited by the Government
Sharma listed a range of figures to support his claims. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, tap-water connections have reportedly been extended to more than 15 lakh households. Total installed power capacity has reached 34,279 MW, with over 2.3 lakh agricultural electricity connections and 12 lakh domestic connections added. More than 2.6 lakh rooftop solar plants have been installed under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
On infrastructure, Sharma said nearly 50,000 km of roads had been built, linking 1,758 villages with paved connectivity. He also pointed to the completion of a petrochemical refinery in western Rajasthan involving an investment of ₹80,000 crore. Under the Annapurna Rasoi scheme, the quantity of food served was increased from 450 grams to 600 grams per serving.
Farmers are receiving ₹9,000 annually through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. In urban areas, more than 1 lakh houses have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with construction of nearly another 1 lakh units underway. The state has attracted investment proposals worth ₹35 lakh crore under the Rising Rajasthan initiative, with projects worth ₹9 lakh crore moving toward implementation.
Jobs, Governance, and Emerging Technology
Sharma said approximately 1.89 lakh young people had been placed in government jobs, and a recruitment calendar covering 1.25 lakh posts had been issued. He highlighted a zero-tolerance policy on paper leaks and said more than 35 policies had been introduced with transparency as a priority. The government is also positioning Rajasthan as a hub for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and semiconductors, he added.
Party Organisation and Civic Poll Strategy
BJP State President Madan Rathore said the party operates round the clock with a robust structure extending to the booth level, and that ticket distribution for the civic elections would favour grassroots workers with clean records and electoral viability. State General Secretary (Organisation) Ajay Kumar stressed that close coordination between the government and the party organisation would be decisive in securing what he called a 'historic victory.'
The meeting also saw the participation of Minister Jogaram Patel and State General Secretary Shravan Bagdi. Discussions centred on communicating government achievements, strengthening grassroots outreach, and consolidating the BJP's position across urban local bodies. The session concluded with a call to intensify engagement before polling day.
