New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Opposition charged that the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is to blame for transforming illegal infiltration into a pivotal election topic. Leaders from at least four Opposition parties expressed that the ruling party raises this issue wherever elections occur or are forthcoming.

This backlash occurred after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a virtual interaction with BJP booth-level workers in Assam ahead of the Assembly polls scheduled for April 9, remarked: “Infiltration is not merely an election issue; it is crucial for safeguarding Assam's identity and national security. The Congress has permitted illegal land encroachment by infiltrators.”

Shiv Sena-UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi conveyed to IANS that PM Modi's assertion that illegal infiltration is not an election matter contradicts Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statements, noting that Shah has been discussing infiltrators from Bengal to Assam.

“The Mumbai Mayor is also addressing the issue of infiltrators. However, the pertinent question is, despite holding power for 11 years, why hasn’t the BJP secured the borders with Bangladesh, allowing illegal entrants?” she questioned.

Similarly, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha accused PM Modi of neglecting discussions on employment.

“I haven't heard PM Modi mention employment. Whether in Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam, or Bengal, the focus remains solely on illegal infiltration. Their dictionary lacks any other term. After being in power for 11-12 years, if the focus remains on infiltration, it highlights your own failures,” Jha remarked to IANS.

Congress MP Manoj Kumar reiterated the Opposition's claims.

“Wherever elections occur or have taken place, in locations like Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, and even Tamil Nadu, the BJP continues to bring up illegal infiltrators. It is evident that this is an election issue,” he stated.

He also pointed out the critical issues of unemployment and inflation.

“Unemployment and inflation are at their highest levels, and the conditions in education and healthcare are dire. These are the issues that require attention, along with farmers' concerns,” he emphasized.

Moreover, he added, “Together with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, we also advocate for the removal of individuals engaged in wrongdoing from the country. We oppose infiltrators, but not just as an election topic. The BJP cannot mislead the people of Assam.”

Samajwadi Party MP Rajiv Rai urged the government to disclose the actual figures of illegal infiltrators in the nation.

“The government should clarify the whereabouts of infiltrators from Jharkhand, Bihar, and Delhi. They only discuss infiltration during elections, yet the specific numbers are never mentioned,” he stated.

Point of View

The ongoing discourse around illegal infiltration reflects the complexities of political strategy in India. The Opposition's critique highlights broader concerns regarding governance and the effectiveness of current policies. As elections near, the emphasis on such issues could sway public opinion significantly.
