BJP Criticizes CM Siddaramaiah for Remarks on Iran Conflict
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 3 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken aim at Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his remarks concerning sensitive international matters amidst the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the US, and Iran. The BJP accused him of making hasty comments regarding India’s foreign policy.
In a sharply worded statement directed at Siddaramaiah, Opposition Leader R. Ashoka expressed, "Karnataka anticipates 'maturity' from its Chief Minister, rather than comments that may spark controversy during sensitive global circumstances." He emphasized that India's foreign policy is shaped in New Delhi, guided by strategic interests and national priorities, rather than swayed by local electoral dynamics.
Referencing Operation Sindoor, Ashoka claimed that the Chief Minister’s previous statements had led to unnecessary controversy and embarrassment for the state, arguing that his remarks were exploited by antagonistic foreign media. He further asserted that during a time of rising global tensions, responsible leaders must practice restraint.
Ashoka criticized Siddaramaiah for reacting in a "knee-jerk" fashion and indulging in what he termed appeasement politics rather than exhibiting true statesmanship. He pointed out that foreign policy should not serve as a platform for ideological stances but rather focus on protecting India’s sovereignty, maintaining strategic equilibrium, and enhancing the country’s international reputation.
Ashoka reiterated that the Chief Minister's statements carry significant influence and urged him to transcend party politics to uphold the dignity associated with his position.
Notably, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday condemned the US's "unwarranted" assault on Iran, while assuring that Kannadigas stranded in Arab nations would be safely repatriated.
While denouncing the US actions, the Chief Minister described the attack on Iran as "unwarranted". He criticized the United States for its contradictory stance of advocating for peace while engaging in warfare.
He also offered condolences and prayed for the eternal peace of Iran's President Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had been killed.
In the midst of the US-Israel strikes on Iran and ensuing retaliatory measures, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar condemned the attack on a school that resulted in the deaths of several children.
Speaking with reporters, Shivakumar remarked, "The ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran is unjust. Innocent children have perished in airstrikes. Why should a school filled with innocent children be targeted? This is utterly condemnable. It is crucial to ensure the safety of Indian citizens stranded in Gulf countries, including Dubai."
