Aizawl, March 13 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP’s national president J.P. Nadda on Thursday conveyed their gratitude to the people of Mizoram for delivering a stunning mandate to the BJP in the Village Council election conducted under the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC).

The BJP, currently holding power in the politically significant CADC located in southern Mizoram's Lawngtlai district, achieved a remarkable victory in the Village Council (VC) elections, capturing a majority in 64 out of 88 VCs.

Among the 64 VCs where the BJP secured a majority, they obtained the majority in nine VCs without any prior contest.

The elections for the Village Councils, which are functionally equivalent to Gram Panchayats in non-tribal autonomous district councils, took place on Wednesday.

Results released by the State Election Commission (SEC) revealed that the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) of Mizoram came in second, achieving a majority in 12 VCs, while the primary opposition party, the Mizo National Front (MNF), secured a majority in eight VCs.

The Congress, which previously governed the state for numerous years, was unable to win a majority in any of the 88 VCs.

According to the SEC results, there was no clear majority in two VCs, while independent candidates won a majority in two other VCs.

Out of a total of 516 seats across 88 VCs, including 88 reserved for women, the BJP secured 366 seats, the ZPM attained 81 seats, the MNF captured 45 seats, the Congress won two seats, and 22 independent candidates were also elected.

Home Minister Shah expressed his sentiments on X, stating: “My heartfelt gratitude to the people of Mizoram for giving the BJP a stunning mandate in the Village Council Election in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC). It is a reflection of the people’s affection for Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, who has consistently supported the development of Mizoram. Heartiest congratulations to the Karyakartas of the Mizoram BJP.”

J.P. Nadda also took to X to express: “Thank you to the people of Mizoram for granting the BJP a decisive victory in the 2025 Village Council General Election in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC). This remarkable mandate is a testament to the people's faith in Hon. PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision and dedication to development.”

“I congratulate and commend the BJP Mizoram karyakartas for their tireless commitment and effort in achieving this victory,” Nadda added. The BJP’s northeast in-charge Sambit Patra also congratulated the BJP’s Mizoram unit for their success in the VC elections.

He remarked in a post on X: “The people in the northeast continue to place their trust in the BJP and the visionary leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji. The BJP's significant victory in Mizoram's Village Council elections underscores the unwavering efforts of BJP President Shri J P Nadda Ji and Mizoram BJP President Shri Vanlalhmuaka Ji in fortifying the party's presence in the region.”
