Mysuru, April 8 (NationPress) In a sharp response to the backlash regarding the rise in LPG cylinder costs, Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra criticized Congress party leaders. He asserted that had someone like Rahul Gandhi been the Prime Minister, the current price of Rs 850 would have escalated to Rs 2,500.
Addressing reporters in Mysuru on Tuesday, Vijayendra reacted to the disparaging comments made by the Chief Minister and other ministers concerning the elevated LPG prices.
He stated, "Even with the recent increase of Rs 50, the price now stands at Rs 850. In August 2023, it was decreased by Rs 200 to Rs 907. The Central government has raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 due to the surge in crude oil prices globally. However, this financial strain has not been transferred to the general populace.
"It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who initiated the Ujjwala scheme, enabling even the underprivileged residing in huts to access LPG. Back in March 2023, the cost of a gas cylinder was Rs 1107. If someone like Rahul Gandhi had taken the helm as Prime Minister, the price would have been Rs 2,500,” he remarked.
“The Central government has based its decisions on petrol, diesel, and gas cylinder pricing on the escalating international crude prices. But isn't it the state government that has increased milk prices? Are you not taxing waste? Haven’t you raised water charges? Are we importing milk from the global market?” he challenged.
"The government under CM Siddaramaiah has hiked the prices of 48 essential commodities. It seems CM Siddaramaiah has constituted an expert committee solely for the purpose of increasing prices," Vijayendra criticized.
Vijayendra claimed, “No other state government has imposed such burdens on the common populace. In Karnataka, the Congress and Siddaramaiah are doing just that.”
“This government is lacking direction. They have elevated the prices of petrol, water, and diesel. They’re even imposing taxes on waste. The cost of milk has surged by Rs 9. Taxes on petrol and diesel have risen by Rs 7.50,” he stated.
“Who is truly burdening the citizens by inflating the prices of 48 essential commodities -- Siddaramaiah or PM Modi? You tell me,” he questioned.
He highlighted that while the Central government has raised excise duty on petrol and diesel, it has not transferred this burden to the populace; rather, companies are absorbing the costs, according to the Central ministers.
“The police department was meant to receive salaries on the 1st of the month, but even by the 7th, they have not received them this month. Teachers have also not been compensated. Government employees are yet to see their salaries. This clearly indicates the poor financial state of the government,” Vijayendra concluded.
