Siddaramaiah's Alarm Over LPG Price Surge: Calls for Centre's Resignation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 7 (NationPress) Expressing strong disapproval towards the Central Government for the surge in LPG cylinder costs, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated on Saturday that this latest hike is profoundly alarming and has called for the resignation of the Centre.
"The recent rise in LPG cylinder prices is alarming for countless households throughout India. As families are already grappling with persistent inflation, this adds yet another strain on the everyday lives of common citizens. Domestic cylinder prices have surged by approximately Rs 60, further squeezing household finances," he remarked.
He continued, asserting that this predicament is no coincidence but rather a byproduct of foreign policies that confuse submission with strategy.
Siddaramaiah criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for repeatedly compromising India’s strategic independence by aligning too closely with the United States, which has disrupted long-standing energy relationships with countries like Russia and Iran—nations that have historically provided energy security to our populace.
“Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru clearly cautioned: ‘Foreign policy is the outcome of economic policy.’ When diplomacy becomes more of a spectacle than a strategy, the repercussions inevitably affect the kitchens of the impoverished and middle-class families,” he added.
Furthermore, he noted that even the recent book by former Army Chief General M. M. Naravane raises significant concerns about the lack of institutional consultation and strategic depth in India’s foreign policy decisions, reinforcing the growing belief that the Prime Minister lacks a fundamental grasp of diplomatic issues and their economic ramifications.
"Regrettably, these misguided foreign policy decisions seem to stem from the Prime Minister’s apprehensions regarding potential exposure in the Epstein files, coupled with his apparent ignorance of diplomacy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi must clarify why the people of India are bearing the cost of his diplomatic missteps. He owes the nation an apology, and his resignation is warranted," he stated.
The prices of domestic LPG and commercial cylinders have increased by Rs 60 and Rs 114.5, respectively, effective March 7, as energy costs continue to escalate due to the conflict in West Asia. This marks the second price hike within the past year.
