Mumbai, May 19 (NationPress) The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reached out to the public urging them to remain calm, particularly in light of serious health conditions.
The advisory came after two women from Sindhudurg and Dombivli, who were receiving treatment at a city hospital, tragically passed away on Sunday due to multiple severe ailments (Nephrotic syndrome accompanied by Hypocalcemic seizures, cancer). BMC has clarified that these deaths were not linked to COVID-19.
BMC stated, “COVID-19 is now classified as an endemic and a continuing health issue. With the virus established at the community level, instances of COVID-19 have become sporadic and quite rare.”
Recent reports indicate an uptick in COVID-19 cases in regions such as Singapore, Hong Kong, East Asia, and various other countries.
The health department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is diligently monitoring the situation to manage the spread of COVID-19.
“From January 2025 to April 2025, the count of COVID-19 patients has remained very low. Although some cases have emerged in May, the BMC is urging citizens to stay calm regarding the situation,” it mentioned.
According to BMC, medical treatment and advisory services are readily available in civic hospitals, including Seven Hills Hospital, which offers 20 beds in the MICU, 20 beds for children and pregnant women, as well as 60 general beds.
Kasturba Hospital has two intensive care beds and a special unit with 10 beds, which can be expanded if needed.
“Common symptoms of COVID-19 encompass fever, dry or productive cough, sore or achy throat, fatigue, body aches, and headaches. Other symptoms may include a runny nose and a loss of taste or smell. These symptoms can often resemble those of a common cold and may vary among individuals. In more severe situations, trouble breathing is a significant warning sign,” stated the BMC advisory.
The BMC further emphasized that COVID-19 can be avoided through appropriate precautions. Vulnerable groups, including those with serious health issues and weakened immune systems, such as cancer patients, the elderly, individuals with diabetes, hypertension, and liver conditions should take special care.
BMC has urged citizens to seek help from municipal clinics, hospitals, or their family doctors if they experience symptoms such as fever, cough (dry or productive), sore or achy throat, fatigue, body aches, or headaches.
Moreover, the BMC has advised the public to wear masks in public spaces if experiencing symptoms, maintain distance from others, wash hands frequently with soap and water, follow a balanced diet, and ensure adequate rest.
