New Delhi, Oct 24 (NationPress) On the occasion of the 18th Raising Day of Project Arunank by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), celebrated in Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh, special welfare initiatives were unveiled for Casual Paid Labourers, as reported by a Defence Ministry official.
A Motorable Expedition was also conducted along the Naharlagun-Joram Top-Sangram-Ziro-Naharlagun route to enhance road connectivity and raise safety awareness, alongside other activities commemorating the project's remarkable 17 years of dedicated service in challenging terrains.
The welfare initiatives for Casual Paid Labourers comprise upgraded shelters, protective clothing, and regular health camps, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to BRO’s mission, stated the official.
Since its inception on October 24, 2008, the project has successfully constructed and maintained over 696 km of roads and 1.18 km of major bridges, significantly improving connectivity to remote valleys and forward areas in Arunachal Pradesh while fulfilling the operational needs of the Armed Forces.
A significant achievement of the project was the completion of the 278-km Hapoli-Sarli-Huri Road, blacktopped for the first time since Independence, linking one of the most isolated regions in the Kurung Kumey district.
Project Arunank has also embraced innovative and sustainable technologies such as Steel Slag, Cut-and-Cover Tunnels, Geo Cells, Plastic Sheets, GGBFS Concrete, and Gabion Walls, enhancing the durability and sustainability of road infrastructure in the region.
Among the project’s significant milestones, the Hapoli-Sarli-Huri Road was upgraded to NHDL standards in 2020, followed by the double-laning of the Kimin-Potin Road in 2021.
Successful connectivity to Maza, the final frontier along the Line of Actual Control, was established on December 28, 2022, as noted in the statement.
The TCC-Maza Road is set for inauguration in November, coinciding with the completion of the TCC-Taksing Road earlier this year.
The Ministry indicated that the Huri-Tapa and Taksing Ghora Camp-Lung OP roads are on track for completion by the end of 2025 under a mission-mode execution, reinforcing the project’s commitment to timely and strategic development.
