BSF Intercepts Smuggled Gold Worth Rs 1.71 Crore in Tripura Border Village

Agartala, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully confiscated 2.18 kg of smuggled gold worth Rs 1.71 crore at a border village in close proximity to the India-Bangladesh border within Tripura's Sepahijala district, according to officials on Thursday.

A representative from the BSF stated that personnel from the 81st Battalion conducted the seizure in Nehal Chandra Nagar village on Wednesday night.

Following specific intelligence, BSF troops set up an ambush along the International Border and noted suspicious activity near the border fence.

Upon being confronted by the BSF, the alleged smugglers escaped, utilizing the dense foliage, rugged terrain, and the cover of night, as reported by the spokesman.

Nevertheless, the vigilant BSF troops carried out a comprehensive search of the area, which resulted in the recovery of the smuggled gold, comprising bars, biscuits, and nuts, totaling nearly 2.18 kg.

The confiscated gold has been transferred to the Customs Department for subsequent legal procedures.

A statement from the BSF emphasized that this operation underscores the BSF's steadfast dedication to protecting India's borders and thwarting cross-border smuggling.

This incident marks one of the most prominent gold recovery operations along the India-Bangladesh border in recent years, especially in Tripura.

The BSF remains resolute in its goal to combat illegal activities at the border and uphold national security, as noted in the statement.

A senior BSF official revealed that 55 Rohingyas among 675 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were apprehended in Tripura this year, alongside the seizure of various contraband worth Rs 48 crore.

In light of the turmoil in Bangladesh, the BSF has heightened its security measures along the India-Bangladesh border, deploying additional forces.

The BSF is also utilizing a range of devices to monitor the border situation closely.
