Kolkata, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Eastern Command of the Border Security Force (BSF) has initiated 'Ops Alert' across the extensive 4,096 km Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in anticipation of Republic Day.
There has been an increase in patrolling, with border domination taking place both day and night.
Ravi Gandhi, the additional director general of Eastern Command, BSF, conducted a tour of the South Bengal Frontier to assess readiness and review the interactions between the force and the border population on the Indian side.
A statement issued by the Headquarters, Special Director General, BSF in Kolkata mentioned that the 'Ops Alert' has been launched to avert any unforeseen incidents ahead of the country's 76th Republic Day, particularly in light of the evolving situation in Bangladesh.
The 'Ops Alert' initiative is being implemented across all field formations of the BSF along the IBB to bolster security and reinforce all border outposts.
According to the BSF, “The ADG is supervising operational readiness and strategic placement along the South Bengal Frontier. He has instructed all field formations to enhance surveillance and remain vigilant, especially in the riverine and unfenced areas of the IBB.”
The 'Ops Alert' will include numerous drills in both in-depth and forward areas, alongside the validation of various operational protocols to manage all potential scenarios along the IBB, with adjustments made as necessary.
On Thursday, Ravi Gandhi took part in a civic action program at a school near the IBB in North 24-Parganas district of West Bengal.
After distributing sports kits, school bags, and other supplies to students, he stated: “Empowerment of border communities and youth development is our main focus. Such initiatives not only promote mental and physical growth but also enhance the spirit of patriotism and discipline in border regions.”
He also mentioned that a Sector Commander level conference between the BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh was held.
“We discussed various issues during the conference, including the necessity to restrict movement across the border, except for farmers. A consensus was reached on these topics,” he noted.
The situation at Sukdevpur in Malda, West Bengal, was also reviewed, where both forces agreed to collaborate effectively to maintain safety along the IBB.
