New Delhi, Jan 1 (NationPress) On Thursday, the government declared the extensive launch of Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi), also referred to as Wi-Fi Calling, coinciding with the New Year celebrations. This innovative service is now accessible to all BSNL subscribers throughout every telecom circle in the nation, delivering uninterrupted and high-quality connectivity, even in challenging conditions, stated Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India's leading state-owned telecommunications provider.
The service is now available to BSNL customers across all telecom circles in the country.
According to BSNL, this service is particularly advantageous in rural and remote regions where mobile signal may be inadequate, provided there is a reliable Wi-Fi connection, such as BSNL Bharat Fiber or other broadband services.
VoWiFi also alleviates network congestion and is provided at no extra cost, with no fees for Wi-Fi calls.
“VoWiFi allows customers to initiate and receive voice calls and messages over a Wi-Fi network, ensuring clear and dependable connectivity in locations with weak mobile signals, such as homes, offices, basements, and remote areas,” said the Ministry of Communications in a statement.
VoWiFi is an IMS-based service that facilitates seamless transitions between Wi-Fi and mobile networks.
Calls are conducted using the customer’s existing mobile number and phone dialer, eliminating the need for third-party applications.
“VoWiFi is compatible with most modern smartphones. Customers need only to enable Wi-Fi Calling in their device settings. For device compatibility and assistance, customers can visit the nearest BSNL customer service center or contact the BSNL helpline – 18001503,” said the ministry.
The rollout of VoWiFi marks a significant milestone in BSNL’s network modernization initiative and its pledge to enhance connectivity across the nation, particularly in underserved regions, according to the ministry's statement.
