Spanning 72 acres and constructed at a cost of Rs 550 crore, this monument will be inaugurated in the presence of Buddhist monks and devotees from 15 countries including China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Malaysia, Bhutan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, Laos, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
On Monday, CM Nitish Kumar announced the inauguration via the social media platform X, stating: “It brings me immense joy to share that the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa, Vaishali, will be inaugurated on July 29, 2025. Devotees and monks from approximately 15 nations are traveling to Bihar for this momentous event. This is a proud occasion for all of us in Bihar.”
Constructed from pink stones sourced from Rajasthan, the stupa features an eco-friendly design, providing a tranquil atmosphere for visitors. At its core is the sacred relic casket of Lord Buddha, positioned on the first floor.
The relics, gathered from six historical sites, include those from Vaishali’s Mud Stupa, which is regarded as the most authentic by the Chinese traveler Xuanzang.
CM Kumar emphasized his hands-on involvement in the project: “I have been closely monitoring the construction process… to ensure the work is completed with distinction and in a timely manner.”
He further elaborated: “Vaishali is a land rich in history and mythology that introduced the world to its first republic. It has also been a pioneer of women’s empowerment, being the first place to include women in the Buddhist Sangha.”
The Chief Minister described the memorial as a representation of Bihar’s cultural heritage and spiritual legacy, asserting that it will enhance tourism, cultural identity, and job opportunities in the vicinity.
“The Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa will not only place Vaishali prominently on the global Buddhist map but will also chart a new course for tourism, culture, and employment,” he concluded.
