Key Takeaways
Jaipur, April 9 (NationPress) Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, and over 15 others suffered injuries in a devastating road accident late Wednesday night on National Highway 48, which connects Delhi and Jaipur, according to officials on Thursday.
The collision occurred on a bridge close to BDM Hospital in Kotputli when a private bus traveling from Makrana to Haridwar crashed into a stationary trailer. The steel rods loaded on the trailer pierced through the front of the bus, resulting in the immediate deaths of the driver and a female passenger.
The front end of the bus was left utterly wrecked, causing chaos among the passengers.
Reports indicate that the bus, which was carrying around 22 passengers, was heading to Haridwar. At about midnight, it reached the bridge near BDM Hospital, where an unattended trailer loaded with steel rods was parked. The area reportedly lacked adequate lighting, and the trailer had no warning signs or hazard lights.
It is believed that the bus driver did not spot the stationary trailer in time. Due to the high speed, he lost control and crashed into the rear of the trailer.
The protruding steel rods penetrated the driver’s cabin and extended deep into the bus. The driver, Chandramohan (55), from Ladoli village in Nagaur, and a female passenger, Bichhu Devi, were killed instantly. At least 16 other passengers were injured.
Upon hearing the loud crash and the cries for help, local residents hurried to the scene to assist in rescuing the trapped passengers. Many individuals were stuck within the wreckage due to the extensive damage to the bus's front. Police from Kotputli arrived shortly after being notified and initiated rescue and relief efforts.
The injured were transported to the Government BDM Hospital for initial treatment before being discharged. Traffic on the highway was briefly disrupted but was restored after the damaged vehicles were cleared.
Omprakash, the bus’s second driver who survived the incident, mentioned that the trailer was left parked in the dark with no warning indicators. The driver of the trailer reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Kotputli SHO Rajesh Sharma confirmed that traffic has returned to normal and indicated that further action would be taken once a formal complaint is lodged.
