New Delhi, Oct 6 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that November 11 will be the date for by-elections in eight Assembly constituencies across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha. The results of these elections are expected to be released on November 14.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the by-elections will take place in the Assembly Constituencies (ACs) Budgam and Nagrota. The Budgam seat became vacant after the resignation of Omar Abdullah, while the Nagrota bye-election was called due to the passing of Devender Singh Rana.

In Rajasthan, the bye-election for the Anta seat is occurring because of the disqualification of Kanwarlal Meena.

In Jharkhand, the bye-election for the Ghatsila (ST) seat is a result of the death of Ramdas Soren; in Telangana, the Jubilee Hills bye-election follows the death of Maganti Gopinath; in Punjab, the Tarn Taran seat is up for election due to the passing of Kashmir Singh Sohal; in Mizoram, the Dampa bye-election is necessitated by the death of Lalrintluanga Saila; and in Odisha, the Nuapada seat is vacant following the death of Rajendra Dholakia.

A circular from ECI secretary Sanjeev Kumar Prasad stated that the Gazette Notification for the bye-elections across all seven states will be issued on October 13.

The last date for nominations in Jammu and Kashmir and Odisha is set for October 20, while the deadline for Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, and Mizoram is October 21.

Nomination scrutiny will occur on October 22 for Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, and Telangana, with Rajasthan scheduled for October 23.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations in Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, and Telangana is set for October 24, while it will be October 27 for Rajasthan.

The ECI has confirmed that EVMs and VVPATs will be utilized at all polling stations during the bye-elections. The circular assured that an adequate amount of these machines has been provided to facilitate a smooth electoral process.

The ongoing update of electoral rolls will continue until the final date for nominations, with respect to the qualifying date for applications received until 10 days prior to the nomination deadline.

The ECI has noted that the Special Summary Revision (SSR) for both Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir has concluded, with the qualifying date set for April 1, 2025. The final publication of the electoral rolls for 27-Budgam and 77-Nagrota was completed on May 5, for 45-Ghatsila (ST) on September 29, and for 21-Tarn Taran, 2-Dampa (ST), and 61-Jubilee Hills on September 30. The roll for 193-Anta was published on October 1, and for 71-Naupada, it will be finalized on October 9.

This by-election schedule coincides with the ECI's announcement regarding the Bihar Assembly elections, which will occur in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results to be declared on November 14.
