Raipur, April 21 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking event in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, a member of the 19th Battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) lost his life due to an IED (improvised explosive device) explosion, as reported by officials on Monday.
The explosion, which was instigated by Maoists, occurred in the vicinity of Toynar and Farsegarh villages, close to the Mormed forest area.
The courageous soldier, Manoj Pujari, aged 26, was part of a CAF unit on patrol to secure a road construction project along the Toynar-Farsegarh route, as stated by the officials.
The explosion transpired in the forested Mormed area, approximately four kilometers from the Toynar police station.
According to reports, Manoj inadvertently stepped on a pressure bomb laid by Maoists, resulting in the tragic detonation.
The CAF team was deployed to safeguard the road construction initiative, which aims to provide benefits to local residents.
In response to the incident, security forces quickly mobilized to the scene, and a search operation is currently in progress.
Authorities have denounced the assault, labeling it a cowardly act by Maoists, who frequently utilize pressure bombs to target security forces in Maoist-affected regions.
Such strategies have led to numerous fatalities among soldiers and have left many others injured.
Officials have confirmed that efforts are underway to recover the body of the fallen soldier from the forest, and initiatives to combat Maoist activities in the area persist.
Earlier this year, Maoists targeted a vehicle transporting soldiers in Bijapur district, resulting in the martyrdom of eight personnel from the Dantewada DRG (District Reserve Guard) and their driver.
On April 9, a jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured in an IED blast in Bijapur district while on duty in a Maoist-prone area, where such devices are often used against security forces.
The injured jawan was promptly evacuated and received medical assistance.
On April 4, another unfortunate incident in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh resulted in a 25-year-old man losing his life, while another person was injured in a similar IED explosion.
The blast, believed to be orchestrated by Maoists, often targets unsuspecting civilians and security forces by placing IEDs along roads or trails.
On March 30, another incident in Bijapur district claimed the life of a 40-year-old tribal woman.
The woman tragically fell victim to an IED explosion while navigating through a forested area, with the device detonating unexpectedly, leaving no chance for survival.
