Raipur/Bijapur, Dec 28 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement against Maoist insurgency in the Bastar area, the 199th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) successfully discovered and neutralized two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Maoists, thus averting a potential disaster.

As per police reports, the operation was executed under the authority of the Gangaloor Police Station. A CRPF team stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Koppaguda was engaged in routine area domination and demining activities in the FOB Pidiya vicinity.

Approximately two kilometers from the Pidiya camp, during thorough demining along a road that is currently under construction, vigilant personnel uncovered the hidden explosives about 50 meters from the roadway.

One IED was concealed within a tiffin box, while the other was masked inside a beer bottle—techniques frequently employed by Maoists to disguise pressure-triggered devices.

Both IEDs were constructed to detonate under pressure and were believed to be aimed at targeting security forces or vehicles involved in road construction and patrolling.

Adhering to established safety protocols, the Bomb Disposal Team of the 199th Battalion effectively neutralized both IEDs on-site, thereby preventing any danger to security personnel or civilians, according to officials.

Bijapur Police characterized the operation as a thwarting of a “major Maoist scheme.”

Authorities indicated that such explosive devices represent a severe threat to ongoing development efforts, especially road connectivity projects vital for isolated tribal communities.

“Thanks to the alertness and prompt actions of the security forces, a lethal plan was intercepted. Both Bijapur Police and the CRPF are steadfast in their commitment to uphold peace, security, and continuous development in the region,” stated a police spokesperson.

This recovery occurs amid increased anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh’s Red Corridor, where security forces are intensifying efforts to safeguard infrastructure initiatives and establish new camps.

The incident highlights the persistent risk posed by explosives planted by Maoists, despite their declining influence due to surrenders and confrontations.

Local inhabitants have welcomed this action, perceiving it as a move towards stability and enhanced access to essential services.

Security forces continue to conduct area domination exercises to secure the region and ensure safe passage for developmental activities.

Point of View

I affirm that the proactive measures taken by the CRPF and local police have been instrumental in curbing the threats posed by Maoist insurgents. The successful neutralization of IEDs not only protects lives but also propels development efforts in the region, reinforcing our commitment to peace and security.
