Kolkata, Sep 24 (NationPress) A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court has issued a directive on Wednesday, preventing Kunal Ghosh, the Trinamool Congress state general secretary in West Bengal, from making any form of “public comment” regarding the acclaimed actor and BJP leader, Mithun Chakraborty, for the upcoming three months.
The ruling was made by Justice Arindam Mukherjee following a libel petition amounting to Rs 100 crore filed by Chakraborty against Ghosh.
In his libel petition, Chakraborty accused Ghosh of uttering certain public statements that were not only libellous towards him but also extended to his family members. These comments allegedly harmed his social standing, as stated in Chakraborty’s petition.
During the hearing on Wednesday, Chakraborty’s attorney argued that the libellous comments made by Ghosh publicly damaged the social reputation of both Chakraborty and his family, and also hindered his career prospects as an actor.
After a thorough review of the case, the bench mandated the issuance of a notice to Ghosh and subsequently prohibited him from making any “public comment” about Chakraborty for the next three months.
Recently, Ghosh had made numerous public allegations against the superstar concerning his supposed connections to chit fund organizations. Additionally, he made disparaging remarks regarding Chakraborty’s political shifts, recalling his former role as a Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member.
Chakraborty also claimed that Ghosh made libellous and false statements concerning his son and wife.
Initially, Chakraborty had issued a legal notice to Ghosh; however, since the notice did not yield a satisfactory response, he proceeded to file the libel lawsuit in the Calcutta High Court.
The next session in this matter is slated for December this year.
