New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) Commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated on Friday that the transformational measures implemented by the PM in the Ports Sector have resulted in a remarkable capacity growth in ports.
He expressed: "I am pleased to see the Ministry of Ports Shipping & Waterways leading among Infrastructure Ministries with an astonishing 76 percent capital expenditure up to November 2024 for FY 25(BE), as noted in the Economic Survey 2024-25, reflecting the focus provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
Sonowal further remarked: "Thanks to the transformational measures introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Ports Sector, it's gratifying to observe an exceptional capacity increase in ports from 3 MTPA during April-November (FY 24) to 21 MTPA in the same timeframe this FY, as highlighted in the Economic Survey 2024-25. This report clearly demonstrates — without any doubt — how the PM Modi-led government has revolutionized India's Marine Sector into a global powerhouse."
An official statement noted: "Key takeaways from the Economic Survey 2024-25 regarding the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways indicate that the ministry is making significant progress in capital expenditure among infrastructure sectors, as stated in the Economic Survey 2024-25. The Ministry of Ports Shipping & Waterways leads among Infrastructure Ministries with a remarkable 76 percent capital expenditure up to November last year for the previous financial year.
"The report mentions the exceptional growth in Capacity Enhancement in Ports from 3 MTPA during April-November (FY 24) to 21 MTPA in the same period this financial year, along with a significant reduction in average container turnaround time at major ports," it added.
Previously, Sonowal emphasized milestones achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, especially in the maritime sector.
“Under the dynamic leadership of PM Modi, the year 2024 marked a turning point for India’s maritime aspirations,” he stated.
“From establishing the country’s 13th and largest major port to opening new global trade routes, we made considerable progress towards positioning India among the top 10 maritime nations globally.”
