Bengaluru, Sep 12 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, has indicated that the Backward Classes Commission is anticipated to deliver the findings of the Socio-Economic and Educational survey, commonly referred to as the caste census, by December.
While addressing the media at his official residence in Bengaluru, CM Siddaramaiah mentioned that the Madusudhan R Naik committee, alongside the Backward Classes Commission, will conduct this survey adhering to scientific standards and aims to finalize the report by December. Naik serves as the Chairman of the commission.
“Beginning tomorrow (Saturday), ASHA workers will visit each household to distribute sample forms containing 60 questions. Following that, teachers will come to carry out the survey. We have taken all necessary measures to ensure that no one is excluded from this process. Individuals who find it challenging to declare their caste can call the helpline to provide their caste information,” he remarked.
Special measures are in place to prevent any technical issues encountered in past surveys from reoccurring. Any instances of false caste declarations or caste-related disputes will be thoroughly examined and resolved by a team of commission specialists, Siddaramaiah stated.
“Comprehensive data of individuals across all castes and religions is essential to formulate targeted programs for social justice. While the United States implements affirmative action for minorities, India has its own reservation system,” he noted.
“To combat poverty, unemployment, and illiteracy, specialized programs must be established under Articles 15(1) and 16(5) of the Constitution. This survey aims to gauge the social and educational status of 7 crore people,” he added.
“We have stressed the importance of conducting this survey diligently and submitting the report punctually. The Backward Classes Commission is expected to present the findings by December. The survey is scheduled to be completed between September 22, 2025, and October 7, 2025,” he remarked.
“We are engaging 1.75 lakh government school teachers in this survey by offering them a special honorarium. This honorarium is projected to amount to around Rs 325 crore. Currently, we have allocated Rs 425 crore and will provide further funding if necessary,” he mentioned.
“Each household now has electricity. In addition to meter readers, Jio tags will be installed, and approximately 2 crore households will receive a unique identification number with a sticker. Furthermore, we will link ration cards and Aadhaar cards to mobile numbers, ensuring surveys are conducted even in homes without mobile phones,” the CM emphasized.
“A total of 60 questions have been finalized for the survey,” he added.
The Chief Minister has urged everyone in the state to participate in the survey without exception. Participation can also be done by calling the helpline or online through the official website.
