Ranchi, Jan 31 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody a Hawaldar employed in the Defence Land Unit, Ranchi, along with a civilian, while they were in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. This bribe was sought to permit construction on a plot that is claimed to be 'owned by the Army', as per official reports released on Saturday.

The CBI initiated the case on Friday against the accused, Hawaldar Mukesh Kumar Rai, following a complaint that he had solicited a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant to authorize the continuation of construction activities on the disputed land.

On January 13, he already accepted Rs 50,000 from the complainant, subsequently demanding an additional Rs 1.50 lakh in installments for the same purpose. On January 30, the accused agreed to accept another Rs 50,000 as a part of this illicit arrangement.

The CBI set up a sting operation, apprehending the accused Hawaldar and his accomplice, Dinesh Kumar Rai, a private individual, while they were accepting the agreed-upon bribe of Rs 50,000.

Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the residences of the accused.

In a separate matter, a Special CBI Court in Ahmedabad sentenced three private individuals to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each for fraudulently acquiring a rebate of Rs 1.18 crore on Excise Duty for exports through the use of forged documents.

The convicted individuals included Samir Fateh Mohammad Immamudin (who is currently absconding), Tejas Arvindbhai Desai, and Amit Murarilal Gupta, as stated by the CBI.

The charges were filed on November 30, 2009, with the case originating on February 20, 2009, based on allegations that the accused formed a criminal conspiracy to unlawfully claim rebates by submitting forged documentation purporting to be genuine export papers related to Shree Sai Impex, which resulted in wrongful financial loss to Central Excise, Surat.
