Key Takeaways
Srinagar, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reported on Friday that they have apprehended two officials in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly accepting a bribe.
According to officials, the CBI has detained a Patwari (Revenue Clerk) and a Chowkidar in the Halqa Soaf Shali area of Kokernag after they were caught soliciting a bribe of INR 15,000 from the complainant.
The investigation began promptly on January 15, 2026, when the CBI received a complaint against the Patwari, who was accused of demanding INR 30,000 for land demarcation.
On the same day, a sting operation was executed, and both the Patwari and the Chowkidar were apprehended red-handed while accepting INR 15,000 from the complainant.
Officials confirmed, "The suspects have been taken into custody, and further investigations are ongoing."
The CBI, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), is intensifying efforts to combat corruption among public servants.
Over the past three decades of violence in Jammu and Kashmir, public service integrity has faced severe challenges.
While the focus has been on anti-terror operations, the commitment to duty among public servants has notably declined.
With terrorism significantly reduced, there’s a gradual restoration of accountability, transparency, and discipline within the Union Territory.
Recent anti-corruption initiatives have led to the exposure of a few dishonest individuals in government services, emphasizing that corruption will not be tolerated.
Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha has taken proactive measures to ensure that public servants fulfill their duties with integrity and diligence.
To date, 85 government employees have been dismissed for their connections to terrorism, reinforcing the commitment to accountability in public service.
