Jammu, January 30 (NationPress) – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Friday that a patwari (revenue clerk) in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has been apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe from a complainant.

The CBI’s press release indicated that the accused, identified as Faheem Majid, was caught in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in Gadoora village.

The investigation began following a complaint filed by a resident from the Anchar Soura locality of Srinagar on January 28.

According to the CBI, they initiated the case against the accused on January 28, 2026, after it was reported that he demanded Rs 20,000 to issue an extract of Jamabandi and rectify land revenue records.

The agency set up a trap and apprehended the patwari red-handed while he was receiving the bribe.

The CBI confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody and that further investigations are ongoing.

The decisive action taken by the CBI against corrupt officials highlights its unwavering dedication to combating corruption. Citizens encountering corruption or facing demands for bribes from public officials are strongly urged to report such incidents.

Residents of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh can report any instances of bribery by government employees to the CBI, ACB, Srinagar via mobile at 9419900977 or email at hobacsgr@cbi.gov.in.

The CBI, along with the J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and local police, share the responsibility to combat corruption among government officials in both central and Union Territory services.

For over 25 years, following the rise of terrorist violence in J&K since the 1990s, accountability and transparency in public services had been severely compromised.

However, with the establishment of the rule of law post the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, separatist violence has significantly decreased, and accountability within government services has begun to re-emerge.

As of now, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has dismissed 84 government employees due to their ties with terrorist groups.

Point of View

It is crucial that we recognize the ongoing efforts of the CBI in addressing corruption within government ranks. The recent arrest signals a shift towards greater accountability in Jammu and Kashmir, a region that has faced significant challenges in governance. We must support these initiatives to ensure that public officials are held to the highest standards of integrity.
