Key Takeaways
Srinagar, March 25 (NationPress) - The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has apprehended a naib tehsildar, an executive magistrate, in the Anantnag district while he was in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000, according to officials.
The J&K ACB issued a statement indicating that the Naib Tehsildar, who is stationed in the Arwani area of Anantnag, was caught soliciting and receiving a bribe related to a land inheritance mutation case.
A written complaint was submitted to the ACB, alleging that Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, the Naib Tehsildar from Arwani, was demanding Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant's relatives for the inheritance mutation of 18 Kanals of land belonging to his wife, three sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.
Opting against paying the bribe, the complainant contacted the ACB to initiate legal proceedings against the Naib Tehsildar as provided by law.
The ACB conducted a discreet verification upon receiving the complaint, which confirmed the allegations against the government official. Consequently, a case was registered under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with the Amendment Act of 2018, at the Anantnag ACB police station, leading to an investigation.
As part of the investigation, a trap team was formed and successfully apprehended Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Dangipora village in Budgam district, while he was demanding and accepting the bribe.
Bhat was promptly arrested, and the bribe amount was recovered from him in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.
A subsequent search of the accused's residence was conducted with the oversight of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses. Further investigation into the case is currently ongoing, as stated by the ACB.
