New Delhi, Nov 20 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody a fugitive implicated in a notorious double-murder case that transpired in Abu Dhabi in 2020, as confirmed by officials on Thursday.
The suspect, recognized as Shameem K.K., was captured in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, after evading law enforcement for several years since the initial case was filed in Kerala.
As per the CBI, Shameem had been on the lam since the inception of Kerala Police Case No. 280/2022, commonly referred to as the Shafa Sharif Murder Case, initiated on May 10, 2022.
In the wake of his evasion, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued, leading the court to subsequently separate the proceedings against him, which were recorded as CP No. 4/2025.
The CBI officially assumed command of the investigation on November 3, 2022, following a transfer of the case from the Kerala High Court concerning Crime No. 422/2022 of the Nilambur Police Station.
This case involves the tragic deaths of two Indian nationals — Haris Thathamma Parambil and Dency Antony — who were discovered deceased in their Abu Dhabi residence on March 5, 2020.
Investigators have revealed that Haris, a business consultant in Abu Dhabi, had formed a friendship with the primary suspect, Shaibin Ashraf.
However, their relationship soured amid allegations of jealousy and business competition.
According to the CBI's press statement, “The deceased Harris was engaged in business consultancy in Abu Dhabi, and Shaibin Ashraf (the Accused) became his friend. Due to jealousy and rivalry in business, accused Shaibin Ashraf orchestrated a plan with other co-accused to eliminate Harris and take over his business and assets.”
The CBI's investigation unveiled that Shaibin plotted with multiple accomplices to eliminate Haris and gain control over his business and financial interests.
As part of the scheme, Shaibin allegedly funded the travel and lodging of co-accused individuals in Gulf nations to carry out the murders.
Haris and Dency, who cohabited in a flat, were murdered on March 5, 2020, with the conspirators attempting to pass their deaths off as a double suicide, as stated in the press note.
Following an extensive investigation, the CBI submitted a charge sheet on October 10, 2024, against Shaibin and seven additional accused, including Shameem, who has now been apprehended.
“Upon concluding the investigation, a charge sheet was submitted on October 10, 2024, against Accused Shaibin Ashraf and seven others, including the fugitive accused Shameem KK,” the CBI reported.
