Guwahati, Oct 14 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed charges against two high-ranking officials from the PWD in Bongaigaon, Assam, along with an architect, for allegedly contributing to the suicide of a female PWD Assistant Engineer. This tragic incident arose from claims that she faced severe harassment to endorse fraudulent bills, as reported by an official on Tuesday.
According to the CBI's statement, it was contended that Joshita Das was subjected to coercive tactics, criminal intimidation, and relentless pressure to prepare and approve estimates and bills for a mini-stadium project in a manner that was not compliant with regulations. This immense strain ultimately led her to take the drastic step of ending her life.
The individuals implicated in the CBI FIR include Architect Debajit Sharma, who is affiliated with Aesthetic Creations in Bongaigaon.
Also named are SDO, PWD, Aminul Islam, and Executive Engineer, PWD, Dinesh Medhi Sharma.
The CBI initiated this case on October 13, 2025, targeting both the architect from a private firm and the PWD officials in Bongaigaon, based on allegations surrounding their involvement in the circumstances leading to Joshita Das's suicide.
This investigation commenced following a directive from the Assam government on August 11 and a subsequent notification from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions (Department of Personnel and Training), issued on October 7.
The notification facilitated the transfer of Case No. 188/2025 from the Bongaigaon Police Station to the CBI for further investigation.
Reports suggest that the late Joshita Das endured excessive and unjust work demands from her superiors, colleagues, and contractors, including the accused architect, regarding the PWD's mini-stadium project.
The FIR indicated that Das confided in her family that she was being pressured into actions contrary to departmental policies.
The document also highlighted that when she resisted or was unable to comply, she faced threats of job termination and was belittled, being labeled as incompetent.
