CBSE cybersecurity team monitors OnMark portal ahead of Class 12 re-evaluation launch
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Sunday, 1 June 2025 confirmed that a dedicated cybersecurity team is actively monitoring vulnerabilities in the OnMark portal — its re-evaluation service provider's platform — ahead of the Class 12 post-result activities window opening on Monday. The Board assured students that identified weaknesses have been contained and that systems are being migrated to a more secure infrastructure.
Portal Goes Live for Re-evaluation Applications
Starting Monday, CBSE's Post-Result Activities portal will allow Class 12 students to submit applications for verification and re-evaluation of answer books. The option is available exclusively to students who have already received scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets through the portal.
So far, nearly 4 lakh students have accessed approximately 11 lakh scanned answer sheets through the system, according to the Board.
What the Board Said on Cybersecurity
'We have been closely monitoring the vulnerabilities in the OnMark portal of our service provider that are being flagged in the public domain. An expert team of cybersecurity professionals has been deployed over the last few days from across various arms of the government as well as the IITs to fortify these systems, including taking them over to a more secure set up,' the Board said in an official statement.
CBSE added that it has already been in direct contact with some of the ethical hackers and alert citizens who flagged the weaknesses, and urged others to write to secy-cbse@nic.in with further inputs.
Background: Glitches Delayed the Process
This comes amid a troubled rollout — earlier technical glitches had forced the CBSE to repeatedly extend the deadline for filing re-evaluation applications and depositing fees. The cybersecurity scrutiny of the OnMark portal follows public flagging of exploitable vulnerabilities, raising concerns about the safety of student data and the integrity of the marks-review process.
Notably, the deployment of IIT experts and multi-agency government professionals to audit and harden a board examination portal is an unusual step, underscoring the seriousness with which CBSE is treating the reported weaknesses.
How Re-evaluation Works
Once an application is received, subject experts review the flagged questions and update marks if discrepancies are found. Students who have not yet accessed their scanned answer sheets are not eligible to apply for re-evaluation at this stage.
Helpline for Students
The CBSE has directed students with queries to reach its Tele-Counselling Helpline at 1800 11 8004 or write to resultcbse2026@cbseshiksha.in. The Board has urged students not to panic and to use official channels for all concerns related to the re-evaluation process.
With the portal set to go live on Monday, the focus now shifts to whether the security upgrades hold up under the high traffic expected from lakhs of Class 12 students filing applications simultaneously.
