Jammu, Feb 17 (NationPress) The District Magistrate of Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, has mandated the installation of CCTV cameras at vital locations throughout the city to bolster public safety. This directive, which falls under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, aims to enhance surveillance capabilities through advanced technology.
The order encompasses banking institutions, commercial establishments, and public areas with significant foot traffic.
Specific locations include banks, ATMs, jewellery outlets, petrol stations, shopping complexes, dining establishments, hotels, cinemas, liquor stores, educational institutions, places of worship, transport hubs, hospitals, and offices.
Entities and market associations are required to set up CCTV systems within a fortnight, covering entry and exit points extending up to 40 metres.
The issued systems must function continuously with a power backup, maintaining a minimum resolution of 1920x1080 and retaining footage for a duration of 30 days.
CCTV recordings must be accessible to law enforcement upon request, and any suspicious activities observed should be reported to the local Station House Officers (SHO).
The SHOs are tasked with compiling a list of establishments that fail to comply for submission through the Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police.
This order will be enforced starting Monday for an initial period of eight weeks, with possibilities for extensions or adjustments.
Failure to comply will lead to legal repercussions under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, as per the DM's directive.
This action follows a troubling daylight robbery at a jewellery store, where armed thieves made off with 1.5 kg of gold.
Additionally, there was a reported break-in at a shop, resulting in a loss of Rs 50,000 during the night.
Recent incidents of shooting during gang conflicts have also raised concerns in Jammu city.
These events have fostered a sense of insecurity among the city's peace-loving residents.
Moreover, thousands of pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine transit through Jammu city around the clock.
