Bihar Police Launches Traffic Management Initiative in Patna
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 24 (NationPress) In a substantial move to alleviate urban traffic congestion, local authorities have initiated a thorough plan aimed at reducing congestion in critical traffic zones in Patna.
The strategy encompasses the deployment of traffic signals and high-resolution CCTV cameras throughout essential areas within the boundaries of the Patna Municipal Corporation, as announced by officials on Monday.
Sudhanshu Kumar, Additional Director General (Traffic, Modernisation, and State Crime Records Bureau), noted that over 20 significant congestion hotspots—especially in outer regions such as the bypass and Zero Mile—have been pinpointed, where commuters regularly encounter traffic delays.
These identified locations will soon be fitted with advanced traffic management systems to facilitate smoother vehicular movement.
During a press briefing at Sardar Patel Bhawan in Patna on Monday, Kumar highlighted that ongoing traffic jams at these sites have been causing considerable inconvenience to the public, and this initiative aims to deliver essential relief.
He further mentioned that approximately 30 areas within the city currently have operational traffic signals and CCTV surveillance systems.
These systems are actively utilized to monitor traffic violations, identify offending vehicles, and enforce fines or initiate legal proceedings as necessary.
Looking forward, the department intends to broaden this system to encompass all major locations across the state’s Smart Cities—including Patna—as well as divisional headquarters.
The installation of high-resolution cameras is anticipated to boost enforcement efficiency and guarantee smoother traffic flow throughout urban centers.
In a significant enhancement to policing infrastructure, the Bihar Special Auxiliary Police (BSAP)-1 is poised to establish its office in Naubatpur, located near Patna.
A 30-acre land parcel has already been earmarked for this purpose, with the acquisition process expected to begin shortly.
An allocation of ₹40 crore has been approved for the establishment of the BSAP-1 office, marking a pivotal advancement in fortifying law enforcement infrastructure in the area.
Additionally, in the past three months, approvals totaling ₹49.78 crore have been granted for the construction of various police infrastructure projects across the state.
These projects include four new police station buildings, one residence-cum-office for a Superintendent of Police, and two sub-divisional level offices.
Officials indicated that construction activities at all these sites will commence soon.
The police station buildings will be developed as modern three-story structures, furnished with essential facilities, furniture, and fixtures to enhance operational efficiency.
This initiative is designed to augment policing capacity, administrative efficiency, and overall law and order management throughout Bihar.
