Hyderabad, Aug 20 (NationPress) The Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers has sanctioned the delivery of 50,000 tonnes of urea to Telangana this week, which is anticipated to assist the state in addressing the ongoing urea deficit.
The state authorities announced on Wednesday that the transfer of 10,800 metric tonnes has already commenced from Karnataka, and Coromandel International Ltd. has been directed to facilitate additional supplies through three more shipments within this week.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao expressed gratitude towards the Telangana MPs for bringing the matter of urea scarcity to the Parliament's attention, thereby shedding light on the challenges faced by the farmers in Telangana. He pointed out that the difficulties experienced by farmers stemmed from the delays in the timely distribution of urea to the state.
Emphasizing the government's dedication, Minister Tummala affirmed that under the guidance of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the state will always support farmers and strive for their welfare.
The urea shortage has triggered protests from farmers in various regions over the past few days. On Wednesday, farmers engaged in a ‘rasta roko’ on the Chegunta-Gajwel road in the Medak district.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy claimed on Tuesday that the Central Government is showing bias against Telangana by not supplying urea according to the state's actual requirements.
He called upon the Centre to promptly deliver urea to Telangana farmers as per their sanctioned needs.
According to him, MPs from Telangana have already addressed the issue with Union Ministers, underscoring the complications arising from the insufficient urea supply despite the approved allocation.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the Chief Minister highlighted that even though 8.30 lakh metric tonnes of urea had been allocated for the current Kharif season, only 5.32 lakh metric tonnes had been received so far, resulting in a deficit of almost 3 lakh metric tonnes—creating substantial hardships for farmers statewide.
The Chief Minister also expressed appreciation for Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, who stood in solidarity with Telangana farmers. She participated in the protests alongside Congress MPs from the state in front of Parliament on Tuesday.
“It is appalling that the politically motivated BJP-BRS alliance is conspiring against the farmers of Telangana to deprive them of urea, creating an agricultural crisis. BJP and BRS are colluding to engineer a needless urea shortage for their illegitimate political benefits,” he stated.
