New Delhi, Feb 28 (NationPress) Parliamentarian Raghav Chadha expressed his enthusiasm for the launch of budget-friendly canteen services at airports, with the most recent one being inaugurated at Chennai airport. He conveyed his congratulations to everyone involved in bringing about a "transformative shift" in the way airports serve ordinary passengers.

The AAP Rajya Sabha member took to social media to post images of the affordable canteen that has opened at Chennai airport and shared his delight over this initiative.

"I am pleased to witness the establishment of economical food canteens at airports. I thank all those who supported my request for affordable food and beverages at these locations. Congratulations to each of you - every effort counts towards achieving great change," he remarked in a post on the social media platform X.

The café, located at the T1 domestic terminal of Chennai airport, offers hygienic and low-cost refreshments. A water bottle costs Rs 10, tea is priced at Rs 10, coffee at Rs 20, while samosas and sweets are just Rs 20 each.

It’s noteworthy that the inaugural Udaan Yatri Cafe was launched on December 19 of the previous year at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, celebrating the 100th anniversary of that airport.

Reports indicate that the Ministry of Civil Aviation is eager to establish more such affordable and wallet-friendly cafés, especially following the positive response at Kolkata airport, in Airports Authority of India (AAI)-managed terminals to enhance the travel experience and ensure it is more accessible and inclusive.

Interestingly, the initiative to open the 'Udan Yatri Cafe' at airports followed Chadha raising concerns about the exorbitant prices of food and snacks at these locations, prompting a call for government action.

Addressing the problem of overpriced food stalls at airports, Chadha highlighted that such venues pose challenges for travelers and made a strong case in the Rajya Sabha for reducing these inflated prices.

"Food and snacks can be two to three times more expensive at airports. A water bottle may cost Rs 100, and tea can range from Rs 200 to 250. Why can’t the government implement measures to regulate this? Why can’t affordable canteens be set up at airports?" Chadha questioned in the House, advocating for the rights of ordinary citizens to travel without burdening their finances.
