Udan Yatri Cafe Receives Rave Reviews at Kolkata Airport Runway from Travelers and Staff

Kolkata, Jan 6 (NationPress) The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata proudly commemorated 100 remarkable years of its operation on December 21, 2024.
To celebrate this milestone, a cost-effective cafe named UDAN Yatri Cafe was inaugurated at the airport by the Union Minister of Civil Aviation along with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This cafe, introduced as a pilot initiative, aims to provide affordable food choices for travelers.
The menu reveals that passengers can purchase a water bottle and tea for just Rs 10 each, while coffee, samosas, and the sweet of the day are available for Rs 20.
The introduction of this economical cafe has brought joy to both fliers and airport patrons, many of whom expressed their enthusiasm and satisfaction.
Dharmendra Joshi, a traveler, shared his thoughts with IANS, stating that this was a dream realized for numerous passengers like himself.
“I’ve never encountered anything like this before. I haven’t seen it anywhere else in the country. I bought four water bottles and four samosas for a mere total of Rs 120,” he remarked.
“This is a highly commendable initiative by the Civil Aviation Ministry. Other airports across the nation should adopt this model,” he further commented.
Badal, an employee at Udan Yatri Cafe, confirmed that the budget outlet was officially launched on December 21, 2024.
“Tea and water bottles are priced at Rs 10, while coffee, gulab jamun, and samosas cost Rs 20. The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” he added.
Dr. Pravat Ranjan Beuria, the Airport Director of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, also highlighted the enhancements in passenger services and comfort following the cafe's establishment.
“It gives me great joy to announce that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport has recently reached its centenary. On this occasion, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu ji inaugurated the Udan Yatri Cafe, which offers a budget-friendly menu with reasonable prices for travelers at the airport. The prices are incredibly low and accessible,” he stated.
Notably, the establishment of this budget cafe at Kolkata airport came in response to Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha’s compelling plea in Parliament, advocating for the reduction of exorbitant food and beverage costs at airports and emphasizing the necessity to make air travel affordable for all.
