Chandigarh Roundtable Promotes an Inclusive and Equitable Society for Everyone

Chandigarh, Jan 8 (NationPress) A roundtable conference was organized in Chandigarh to further the theme of ‘Advocacy, Rights, and Reforms with the LGBTQIA+ Community for an Inclusive World’.
The event, supported by the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, and facilitated by Rubaroo, a Hyderabad-based NGO committed to social inclusion, brought together a wide range of participants, including government officials, legal experts, civil society members, media representatives, healthcare professionals, educators, college students, social activists, and LGBTQIA+ community advocates.
In her opening remarks, Caroline Rowett, Deputy High Commissioner at the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, reiterated the UK government's dedication to creating societies where safety, opportunities, and respect are assured for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
“This conference is more than just a conversation; it is a platform for significant engagement and collaboration. It is a chance to listen, learn, and, most importantly, take action. Together, let us investigate routes to a more inclusive society, one where diversity is embraced, where everyone is safe and appreciated, and where equal opportunities are available to all,” stated Rowett.
Shipra Bansal, Chairperson of the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR), and Rakesh Popli, PCS officer, also attended the roundtable as special guests and shared their insights with the participants.
The conference functioned as a vital platform for LGBTQIA+ rights advocates, community members, scholars, and civil society representatives to engage in productive discussions and collaboration.
Participants exchanged insights, experiences, and creative ideas aimed at breaking down barriers to LGBTQIA+ inclusivity and enhancing the rights of the community.
A strong focus was placed on the necessity of collective action and cooperation to create an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. The discussions underscored the commitment of all parties involved to establishing a more inclusive and equitable society for everyone.
