Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 12 (NationPress) Chandra Kumar Bose, the great-grandson of the legendary Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, made headlines on Sunday by officially joining the Trinamool Congress, severing ties with the BJP. The induction took place at Trinamool Bhavan, where he received the party flag from state minister Bratya Basu and party MP Kirti Azad.
Bose expressed his disillusionment with the BJP following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing, questioning the rationale behind doubts regarding his citizenship, considering his lineage as a descendant of a prominent freedom fighter.
In a significant move ahead of the Assembly elections, he stated, "A few years ago, I committed a historical error by aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Today, I have rectified that mistake." Bose had initially joined the BJP in 2016 during a rally in Howrah, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah present. However, he began to distance himself from the party post the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Reflecting on his journey, he remarked, "When Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, I was quite impressed by him due to his vision for progress. Yet, over time, I realized that the Bharatiya Janata Party lacks respect for our nation's constitution and does not resonate with Bengal's rich culture. The prevailing divisive and communal politics in our country is alarming," he declared during a press conference.
Earlier, on January 23, Netaji's birthday, he had met with Mamata Banerjee, conveying that her struggle is crucial not only for Bengal but for the entire nation, urging her to intensify her fight against divisive politics.
