Mumbai, Aug 2 (NationPress) Former Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud on Saturday praised the Constitution as a fundamental force that provides stability to the nation, uniting diverse communities, religions, regions, and cultures, ultimately shaping India into one cohesive entity.
In response to concerns raised by the Opposition regarding threats to the Constitution and its institutions, the former CJI asserted, "The Constitution is here for all times."
During the launch of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s new book, ‘Our Living Constitution’, he emphasized that in the past 75 years, the Constitution has endured various governance cycles, pandemics, and challenges, yet its true essence lies in the stability it has provided to the nation.
Justice Chandrachud also highlighted the Constitution’s role in integrating different communities, religions, regions, and cultures, effectively molding India into a unified nation.
Reflecting on the need for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), he stated, "The Constitution expresses the necessity of a UCC. After 75 years since its inception, it's crucial for us to pursue this vision."
He emphasized the importance of including all segments of society in this endeavor for a just and equitable future for India.
Today's event, organized by India's International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN), revolved around the Living Constitution and its significance in the lives of citizens as they strive for a brighter future.
“Engaging in these discussions is essential for our younger generation, who are the hope and future of our society and nation,” he added.
