New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) In connection with efforts to rejuvenate Maoism in Bihar’s Magadh region, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted a chargesheet in a Patna Special Court against an IED maker accused of providing logistical assistance to associates who extorted funds from local businessmen, an official reported on Saturday.
This new set of charges was filed in a NIA Special Court in Patna against Bihari Paswan alias Rakesh alias Rishikesh alias Mohan, a member of the North Bihar Madhya Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist), under various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Upon his arrest in Begusarai, the NIA seized mobile phones and correspondence linked to CPI (Maoist) found in his possession.
This represents the third chargesheet submitted in case RC-26/2023/NIA/DLI before the NIA Special Court in Patna.
According to a statement from the NIA, Paswan is the fourth suspect to be apprehended and charged in this case.
Investigations by the NIA have indicated that Bihari Paswan, arrested in August 2024, had received training in the production of IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices).
Together with other suspects, he was actively engaged in unlawful activities aimed at undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.
Following directives from previously arrested suspect Pramod Mishra (Polit Bureau Member), Bihari Paswan conspired to bolster the influence of CPI (Maoist) in the Begusarai-Khagariya region, as stated by the NIA.
He provided logistical support to Pramod Mishra and other leaders, and was also involved in fundraising for the banned organization through the collection of levies from brick kiln proprietors and other businesses, the agency reported.
The case originated from the arrest of two senior CPI (Maoist) leaders by Tekari police in the Gaya district of Bihar in August 2023, during which Naxal literature, handwritten letters, and seven memory cards were confiscated.
The NIA assumed control of the investigation and re-registered the case in October 2023 against three suspects: Pramod Mishra, Anil Yadav, and Vinod Mishra, all hailing from the Gaya region.
