New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi vehemently condemned the delay in the resignation of Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, following a two-year-long period of violence and unrest in the state, suggesting that his resignation came only after political embarrassment.
She challenged the political motivations behind the resignation. In a conversation with IANS, Chaturvedi stated, "The resignation was prompted by an impending No Confidence Motion in the Assembly. The Chief Minister was aware that his own MLAs could support the motion, and he understood that his political backing was dwindling. To circumvent embarrassment, the resignation became necessary."
Chaturvedi further remarked, "After all this, it became evident very quickly."
"For two long years, Manipur has awaited the Chief Minister's resignation. During this time, numerous incidents have transpired. The state has witnessed a division between factions, resulting in violent confrontations among the populace, many casualties, and women facing exploitation," she elaborated.
She highlighted the ongoing violence and division in the state that has intensified over time.
“There was extensive violence, countless lives lost, and women subjected to exploitation for two years, yet only after all this did the government take action,” she expressed her discontent over the government's delayed response.
Earlier on Sunday, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh submitted his resignation to Governor A.K. Bhalla.
The ethnic strife between Meitis and Kuki-Zos that erupted in May 2023 had overshadowed his second term, leading him to resign a day prior to a significant Assembly session.
A Raj Bhavan official confirmed that the Governor accepted the resignation and requested Biren Singh to remain as the caretaker Chief Minister until further arrangements are established.
He was joined by BJP's northeast in-charge Sambit Patra, who traveled to Imphal from Delhi. In the national capital, he convened a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president J.P. Nadda.
Regarding the recent election outcomes of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, she asserted, "This contest is between AAP and BJP, with Congress caught in the middle. In this dynamic, we have allowed others to gain advantages. Although Congress may have made some progress, ultimately, the BJP succeeded with a focused campaign."
