Is Former Kerala LoP Chennithala Right to Doubt SIT Findings in Sabarimala Gold Theft?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 8 (NationPress) Ramesh Chennithala, the former Leader of the Opposition in Kerala and a member of the Congress Working Committee, has expressed significant skepticism regarding the findings of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) concerning the Sabarimala gold theft. The SIT's report dismissed the involvement of Dindigul-based businessman D. Mani, raising questions in Chennithala's mind.
He challenged the reliability of the SIT's conclusions and questioned the current whereabouts of the gold that was taken from Sabarimala, indicating that the SIT has yet to locate the missing gold.
"The gold lost during the Sabarimala gold plate theft remains unrecovered to this day. The SIT has failed to provide answers about the whereabouts of the confiscated property," asserted the former Leader of the Opposition.
Chennithala pointed out that the missing gold is not confined to the 300 grams reportedly possessed by jewelry owner Govardhan, and emphasized that a considerable amount is still unaccounted for.
He stated that the insights he previously shared were based on information from a close acquaintance and a non-resident industrialist.
Continuing to engage with this industrialist, who remains steadfast in his earlier claims, Chennithala mentioned that the industrialist has offered leads pertinent to the case and believes that the truth will surface with a thorough and genuine investigation.
The former Leader of the Opposition also raised alarms about the SIT's operations and its composition, alleging recent attempts by the office of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to sway the investigation.
He asserted that two individuals affiliated with a police association have been added to the SIT, alleging that these members have close connections to the CPI(M).
Labeling these developments as "highly suspicious," Chennithala contended that the investigation's impartiality has been compromised.
He insisted that only a court-monitored CBI investigation could uncover the complete truth and restore public trust in the handling of this prominent case.
As it stands, the SIT has detained 10 out of the 15 individuals who have been charge-sheeted across two distinct cases related to the gold heist.
