Shortly after dining, they reported symptoms such as stomach pain and discomfort, according to reports.
Additionally, five other individuals who were initially treated at Chhatarpur district hospital have since been transferred to Gwalior district hospital due to their serious condition. The unfortunate incident took place at the resort late Monday night, as per early reports.
The deceased have been identified as Girja Rajak (35), Roshani Rajak (35), Hardik Soni (25), and Ramshwaroom Kushwaha (47).
The health status of the five other patients admitted to facilities in Jhansi and Gwalior is reported to be critical, according to police statements.
The Chhatarpur district administration has declared a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the families of each deceased individual.
“Chhatarpur District Collector Parth Jaiswal has initiated an inquiry into the incident. Food samples have been procured and dispatched for examination,” the district administration announced on X on Tuesday.
Dr. Roshan Dwivedi, the head of Chhatarpur district hospital, confirmed that nine patients were admitted for treatment, all of whom were suffering from food poisoning.
“Their condition worsened during treatment, resulting in the death of four patients. The remaining five have been referred to Jhansi and Gwalior for advanced care,” Dr. Dwivedi informed IANS on Tuesday.
Upon receiving the report, the Chhatarpur district police acted swiftly, launching an investigation and collecting food samples from the resort.
High-ranking officials from the district administration have also joined the probe.
This alarming incident coincided with the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet's visit to Khajuraho (Chhatarpur district) for a special departmental review marking the government’s two-year milestone.
