Dehradun, May 3 (NationPress) Helicopter services for Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham officially kicked off on Saturday from Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport, significantly enhancing the ongoing Char Dham Yatra, one of the most sacred pilgrimage journeys in Uttarakhand.
The Char Dham Yatra encompasses the hallowed sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, all located in the lofty heights of the Himalayas, drawing millions of devotees annually.
The pilgrimage season officially commenced on April 30, marked by the ceremonial opening of the portals of Yamunotri and Gangotri Dhams in celebration of Akshaya Tritiya.
On Friday, after much anticipation, the gates of Baba Kedarnath were opened to pilgrims amidst a vibrant atmosphere of devotion. Thousands gathered to witness this grand event, filled with Vedic chants and spiritual ceremonies.
Meanwhile, the sacred doors of Badrinath Dham in Chamoli are scheduled to open on May 4.
The journey to these sacred sites can be undertaken by road or air, with helicopter services offering a quicker and more convenient option for devotees.
This year, helicopter services will enable pilgrims to visit both Kedarnath and Badrinath in a single day. The fare for this one-day Do Dham Yatra has been established at Rs 1.25 lakh per person, while a comprehensive three-day package costs Rs 1.45 lakh.
The helicopter service follows a designated route, first transporting pilgrims to Kedarnath and subsequently to Badrinath. Last year, approximately 3,000 devotees utilized the helicopter services, with fares previously set at Rs 1.11 lakh.
This year, MI-17 helicopters, which accommodate 20 passengers at a time, will be used for the aerial pilgrimage.
Additionally, registration for the Chardham Yatra has been mandated by the Uttarakhand government. Pilgrims can register online via the official website -- registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in -- or through the TouristCareUttarakhand mobile app.
Offline registration began on April 28 and is available at key locations such as Haridwar and Rishikesh.
Helicopter bookings can be made through the official IRCTC portal at heliyatra.irctc.co.in.
Uttarakhand, recognized for its rich spiritual heritage, experiences a surge in religious tourism during the Char Dham season, with temples opening in summer and closing as winter approaches.
