Bengaluru, June 7 (NationPress) The Special Wing of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is set to launch its investigation into the tragic Chinnaswamy stampede, which tragically resulted in the loss of 11 lives on June 4, beginning Saturday. At the same time, the ongoing magisterial enquiry led by the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban district is making progress.
According to sources, the CID investigation will be directed by SP Shubanvita, with Dy SPs Gowtham and Purushottam appointed as investigators.
The CID is expected to request custody of the four arrested individuals, who are currently in jail, for questioning on Monday, June 9. A petition has already been filed in court for this purpose.
CID officials plan to visit Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday to examine the specific locations where the stampede led to both deaths and injuries.
Reports suggest that the Cubbon Park police, who originally filed the FIR and conducted the arrests, have successfully transferred the case files to the CID.
Meanwhile, the magisterial investigation, which is required to submit a report within 15 days, is moving forward. The Deputy Commissioner, serving as the District Magistrate, has visited the site and gathered statements from various hospitals regarding the deceased and injured.
The Deputy Commissioner has also sent notices to over 25 injured individuals, requesting them to come forward and provide their statements.
In a separate development, a third FIR has been lodged by the Cubbon Park police against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), DNA Event Management Company, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
This FIR was initiated based on a complaint from C. Venu, a B.Com student, who reported that he attended the stadium after seeing an advertisement for free passes and sustained an injury to his right leg when a barricade fell on him during the stampede at Gate number 6. He is currently receiving treatment at Bowring Hospital.
The Karnataka Police, in the FIR related to the stampede, asserted that the implicated parties — RCB franchise, DNA event management, and the KSCA Administrative Committee — organized the victory celebration without obtaining the required permissions.
The FIR includes charges under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by using dangerous weapons or means), 118(2) read with Section 3(5) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt when the act is performed by multiple individuals in furtherance of common intention), 190 (unlawful assembly), 132 (criminal force to deter a public servant), 125(a) (filing a false affidavit), and 125(b) (rash and negligent acts that endanger human life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A police complaint was also filed against cricketer Virat Kohli on Friday in Bengaluru concerning the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium during an RCB felicitation event, which resulted in 11 fatalities.
Additionally, the Karnataka High Court granted relief from coercive action to the KSCA office-bearers, who were at risk of arrest in relation to the stampede case.
Taking up the petition filed by Malavika Naik, questioning the arrest of her husband, Nikhil Sosale, the Marketing Head of RCB, the High Court adjourned the matter to June 9 without offering any relief from arrest.
