Bengaluru, June 5 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has sharply criticized the Congress-led government for failing to file an FIR concerning the tragic stampede incident near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which has claimed the lives of at least 11 individuals. On Thursday, the BJP called for a judicial investigation into the matter by a sitting High Court judge.

This demand was articulated during a joint press conference held by BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra, along with the Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayaswamy, who leads the Opposition in the Legislative Council.

Vijayendra stated: “A case of unnatural death (UDR) has been filed at the Cubbon Park police station, and an investigation is currently underway. The loss of eleven innocent lives is a direct result of the government's negligence, necessitating a comprehensive inquiry. The state government must face accountability. Why has an FIR not been filed yet?”

He urged the Chief Minister to initiate an inquiry led by a sitting High Court judge and called for decisive action from the state government. Additionally, he demanded a minimum compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the victims' families.

Critiquing the magisterial inquiry order, Vijayendra asserted that such an investigation would be inadequate to scrutinize the Chief Minister and cabinet members, who share culpability.

He questioned the Chief Minister's choice to order a magisterial inquiry, suggesting that the government was avoiding responsibility for its shortcomings.

Vijayendra indicated that the current situation in the state warrants resignations from both the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, as well as the Home Minister.

He also called on the RCB owners to provide compensation. He highlighted that when an elephant from Karnataka caused a death by trampling in Kerala, the Karnataka government announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh.

Vijayendra further condemned the state government's conduct as “inhumane,” noting that while news channels were reporting multiple fatalities, the Deputy Chief Minister was seen celebrating at Chinnaswamy Stadium, and ruling party members were taking selfies at Vidhana Soudha.

Meanwhile, R. Ashoka emphasized, “We will not accept an investigation by the District Collector. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is being filed before the Chief Justice of the High Court. The investigation must be overseen by a High Court judge, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) should be established for this purpose. Justice must be served for all the deceased, and those responsible must face punishment.”

“How can Deputy Commissioners, who report to the CM, conduct a fair investigation? They were involved in planning the event and making preparations. It is implausible to believe they would sincerely investigate the government's own failings. Deceiving the public and causing fatalities is severe—why are they now compounding their guilt? Only a judicial probe can ensure justice for the innocent lives lost and their families. The Congress government must not descend into such pettiness, even in the face of tragedy,” he added.

Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, questioned, “If the police and the government are not at fault, then who is?”

Narayanaswamy asserted that the state government is directly accountable for the casualties and demanded immediate resignations from both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.

He challenged the necessity of the state government organizing the celebration, suggesting it should have been managed by a cricket organization.

He criticized the government’s decision to offer only Rs 10 lakh as compensation for the deceased, labeling it unacceptable.

In related news, social activist Snehamayi Krishna lodged a complaint with the Cubbon Park police on Thursday against CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, KSCA officials, and others. In her complaint, Krishna demanded the police file a case under Section 106 of the BNS Act.

A copy of the complaint has also been submitted to the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, urging for action against those at fault, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
