For the large community of Assamese and Northeast Indian migrant workers employed across the UAE, the new routes eliminate the need for multi-city transits, reducing both travel time and cost. Business travellers and the growing tourism sector stand to benefit equally from the reduced friction of direct access to one of the world's busiest aviation hubs.

The UDAN scheme, launched in 2016, was designed to subsidise underserved routes and develop airport infrastructure across India, with the Northeast identified as a key focus region. Parallel to this, the Act East Policy, formalised in 2014, has sought to deepen economic and infrastructure ties between Northeast India and partners in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Direct Gulf links from Guwahati are a logical extension of these frameworks. Air India Express, India's low-cost international carrier focused on Gulf and Southeast Asian corridors, has been a principal instrument in expanding such connectivity to smaller Indian cities beyond the four major metros.
