Jaipur, March 28 (NationPress) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has received a death threat on Friday, marking the fourth threat to his life in just 14 months.
The recent threat originated from a prisoner held in Bikaner Central Jail, where a mobile phone was discovered.
The suspect, identified as Adil, reportedly contacted the Bikaner Police Control Room at 7:30 a.m., issuing a threat against the Chief Minister.
In a prompt response, law enforcement traced the call and executed a search operation in Bikaner Jail, resulting in Adil's arrest at 8:40 a.m.
Bikaner Jail Superintendent Suman Maliwal confirmed the incident.
Authorities are now probing how Adil acquired the mobile device and his reasons for making the threat, according to police.
Initial investigations indicate that Adil might be a drug user with a precarious mental state. He has a history of self-harm by cutting his veins.
Reports suggest that Adil's inability to access drugs in prison could have motivated him to issue the threat in hopes of being transferred to another facility.
Ongoing investigations aim to uncover any security breaches that allowed him to obtain a mobile phone. This incident is not the first for CM Sharma regarding threats from within penitentiaries.
On February 21, an inmate from Dausa Jail, charged under the POCSO Act, made two threatening calls to the Jaipur Police Control Room within a short span of 10 minutes.
Likewise, on July 27, 2024, another threat call was recorded from Shyalwas Jail, prompting a special team from Jaipur Police to carry out a search operation that led to the seizure of mobile phones from inmates.
In January 2024, another prisoner in Jaipur Central Jail also threatened to shoot the Chief Minister.
This call was promptly terminated, and the mobile device was turned off. However, police managed to identify the perpetrator through technical tracking and confiscated several mobile phones from jail inmates.
Just two days prior to the latest threat against CM Sharma, Deputy CM Dr. Premchand Bairwa also received a death threat.
On March 26, an anonymous caller reached out to the Jaipur Police Control Room. After tracing the call, authorities discovered it came from Jaipur Central Jail. The frequency of such threats emerging from prisons raises significant alarm regarding prison security and the infiltration of mobile devices. Authorities are ramping up investigations to avert additional incidents.
