Jaipur, March 26 (NationPress) Rajasthan's Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa has been subjected to a death threat, according to police reports.
An anonymous caller reached out to the Jaipur Police Control Room to deliver the alarming message.
The duty officer promptly alerted senior police officials regarding the situation.
Upon further investigation, authorities traced the call to a mobile device within the Jaipur Central Jail. This led to a collaborative search effort by the East District Police and Line Force, alongside the Jail Department, inside the facility.
The Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan and Congress figure, Tika Ram Jully, expressed his deep concern, stating, "It is alarming that the state’s Deputy Chief Minister, Prem Chand Bairwa, has received a death threat from within Jaipur Central Jail. Following the earlier threat against Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, this incident further underscores the deteriorating law and order conditions in the state. When officials of such stature are threatened from behind bars, it raises serious questions about the safety of ordinary citizens."
Jully further remarked, "This situation is serious and must be addressed without delay. Criminals operating with such ease from within jails indicate a significant security failure. How are inmates accessing mobile phones? Who is facilitating these breaches? A comprehensive and prompt investigation is essential to tackle these pressing concerns."
This incident is not isolated.
Earlier, on February 21, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also faced a death threat.
The threatening call originated from Dausa Jail, where an inmate, convicted under the POCSO Act, made two threatening calls to the Jaipur Police Control Room within a mere span of ten minutes, from 12:45 to 12:55 a.m.
Additionally, on July 27, 2024, another threat call was made from Shyalawas Jail aimed at CM Sharma.
In response, the Jaipur Police executed a special search operation inside the prison, confiscating several mobile phones.
A case has been filed at the Papada police station against the involved prisoner, and another individual attempting to smuggle a SIM card into the jail was apprehended.
Now, authorities are enhancing surveillance measures within jails to prevent such security incidents.
Following the July 2024 event, the jail administration took strict action, suspending three officials—Acting Jail Superintendent Kailash Daroga, Jailer Bihari Lal, and chief guard Awadhesh Kumar—for negligence.
This is not the first occurrence.
About 13 months ago, in January 2024, a prisoner serving a five-year sentence in Jaipur Central Jail for the POCSO Act had also threatened to shoot the Chief Minister.
The call was abruptly disconnected, and the mobile device used for the threat was turned off. A police investigation utilizing technical surveillance led to the identification of the suspect, and further searches in the jail resulted in the confiscation of multiple mobile phones.
Authorities are now reinforcing security measures within prisons to mitigate such recurring threats.
