He highlighted the corporation’s contributions towards generating revenue, creating employment, and promoting community welfare through ethical mining practices.
In his address, the Chief Minister stated that OMC has established itself as one of India’s premier mining public sector units (PSUs) and is instrumental in the economic advancement of Odisha.
He noted that the OMC, which began its operations with a turnover of Rs 1 crore in the 1960s, has achieved a remarkable business volume of Rs 23,600 crore for the financial year 2024-25.
“The Odisha Mining Corporation has been a foundational component in the progress of Odisha. On this Foundation Day, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all employees, workers, and stakeholders. OMC has become a source of pride for the state, ranking among the top five mining PSUs nationwide, with a turnover of Rs 23,600 crore. The corporation has distinguished itself as a profitable state PSU, not just within Odisha but throughout India. We envision expanding its operations, enhancing enforcement against illegal mining, increasing job opportunities, and amplifying CSR initiatives in education, healthcare, and sports,” remarked Majhi.
During his speech, the Chief Minister emphasized the significance of the manufacturing sector alongside agriculture in driving Odisha’s rapid economic development, stating that his government is committed to harnessing the state’s industrial potential, which is rich in raw materials.
He criticized previous administrations for not fully leveraging Odisha's industrial capabilities.
Majhi added that to stimulate industrial growth in Odisha, the state’s Steel & Mines department has been facilitating access to raw materials for industries via a long-term linkage policy through its e-Tender platform.
The Chief Minister further underscored the state government's initiatives to combat illegal mining and promote sustainable and transparent practices within the mining sector.
He also called for expanding OMC’s reach in tribal and rural regions through enhanced infrastructure and services.
