CM Shivakumar invites Poland as partner for Global Investors Meet 2027 in Bengaluru talks
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar held bilateral talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Taj West End in Bengaluru on Friday, 23 October 2026, inviting Poland to participate as a country partner in Karnataka's Global Investors Meet (GIM) 2027. The meeting underscores Bengaluru's growing appeal as a destination for European investment and signals a deepening of the India-Poland technology corridor.
What Was Discussed
Chief Minister Shivakumar highlighted a proposed investment of ₹80 crore by a Polish business group that could generate approximately 1,000 jobs in Karnataka. He also encouraged Polish technology firms to explore Bengaluru's opportunities in artificial intelligence, software, gaming, robotics, smart manufacturing and startup innovation.
The Chief Minister called for stronger partnerships in research, education and technology transfer, citing Infosys's nearly 20-year presence in Poland as a benchmark for the depth of India-Poland technology cooperation that both sides could aspire to replicate.
Key Areas of Cooperation Identified
Shivakumar identified several priority sectors for bilateral collaboration: medical products, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, waste-to-energy, sludge management, wastewater treatment and circular economy solutions. He said Karnataka would leverage Polish expertise to advance the state's environmental priorities and sustainable industrial development.
He also drew attention to the Letter of Intent already signed with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Katowice and Kato.hub, aimed at promoting collaboration in artificial intelligence, gaming and deep-tech innovation — including the proposed Karnataka-Katowice Digital and Gaming Corridor. The initiative is expected to create opportunities for startups, technology companies and research institutions from both regions.
Who Attended the Meeting
The talks were attended on the Polish side by Finance Minister Andrzej Domański and senior Polish government officials. Prime Minister Tusk and his delegation had arrived in Bengaluru from Delhi on Thursday night for a series of engagements.
On the Karnataka side, Minister for Heavy and Medium Industries M.B. Patil, IT-BT and Home Minister Priyank Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary Tushar Giri Nath and Industries and Commerce Department Principal Secretary S. Selvakumar were present.
What Karnataka Brings to the Table
Shivakumar stressed that investment opportunities were not confined to Bengaluru alone, urging Polish firms to explore Karnataka's districts and its broader industrial ecosystem. He said the state was keen to attract investments that bring new technologies, strengthen local industries, create quality employment and support exports.
'Karnataka has considerable scope for further Polish investment, particularly in medical products, healthcare and advanced manufacturing,' Shivakumar said during the meeting.
What Comes Next
With GIM 2027 on the horizon, Karnataka's outreach to a European partner such as Poland — known for its strengths in advanced manufacturing, AI and green energy — adds a significant dimension to the state's investment diplomacy. If Poland confirms its country-partner status, it would be among the first European nations to formally anchor the meet, potentially signalling a new chapter in India-EU sub-national economic engagement.
